So it took about 10 minutes of easing in to the bath....first playing with the water from the outside of the bath, watching it pour out of the stacking cups, getting very curious, then I moved her inside the tub and she screamed for maybe one minute or so, then got really curious about the water pouring out of the cups again, and finally started playing!!!
Drinking is still not going great. She will barely sip on a bottle, will take very small sips of apple juice from her sippy cup, and isn't doing great with a regular cup either. How in the world was she getting liquids at the baby home? Or was she not??
Eating went OK yesterday. She ate 2 yogurts, one jar of fruit baby food, and one jar of a mixed vegtable and rice baby food. Hope it gets better everyday.
She loved playing outside. She loves to RUN and be chased, loved the slide, loved playing in the sand and filling up buckets, but we need to get her to not THROW the sand....she liked that too.
I am worried about the small size of her head. I wish I had brought a tape measure to compare to what the latest measurements they gave me were. I don't think they were right.

we brought our little angel home last month and we used sippy cups. I'm not to sure if they have then in Russia but they might. Good luck with everything and thing will get beter everyday.Just remember it's a major transtion for her.
So glad to hear that you had success with the bath!!! When we brought Matt home he had no idea how to drink out of a sippy cup as they drank from something like a tea cup at the baby home. It didn't take too long for him to figure it out...he also now loves to drink from a straw but can be messy sometimes!!! Great you are there when the weather is warm and you can play outside instead of having to try and get out in feets of snow!!
P.S. - A post without pics????? Come on!!! We need pictures!!!
What a beauty!!!! Her eyes are amazing! Finally!!! So happy for all of you!
Good news on the bath front, it took us a few weeks for the screaming to end! Have you tried a sippy cup with a straw? That worked really well for us and we still use that today.
We just kept giving Aidan the sippy cup. Eventually he was thirsty enough to take it. . .Keep trying!!
Congrats on the bath! Don't you feel like "Super Mom" when our tricks work?!? Grace barely drank anything the first week or so. She did learn the sippy cup pretty fast, but wasn't interested in the bottle. We stuck with the sippy cup for everything. Anna will the hang of it. You can still cuddle her and hold the cup for her if she won't take the bottle. As far as food, maybe she would eat soup. Grace loves plain old chicken noodle soup! Good luck!
I'm so happy to see you guys reunited again!! I've been watching and waiting this whole year with you.
When we got our little one, she would barely eat as well. I was SO worried. I did find that eating at the apartment/hotel was much better for her since she was getting an overload with all of the new things she was seeing. EVERYTHING is so new and exciting to them and sometime too overwhelming. Once we got home she ate fine, though we did find her chewing abilities to be a little lacking. They fed all soft foods. We did note that drink is given sparingly. I think this is to help with potty training issues, since they are trained so early. We found she like to drink from our water bottles...that may help if you are feeling desperate. ;o) We are praying for you!!

Tatiana wouldn't do a sippy cup either and she didn't understand a straw. She wanted a plain ole glass. She was messy a little but it got the liquids down her.
Congrats on the bath! Woo hoo! That's one area little miss didn't have a problem in. However, she had to cry herself to sleep at night - probably for about 2 months. It was so hard. She'd cry harder though if you held her. It was like she was scared and night time was when she realized it - but if you held her, she thought she was in trouble.
On the head. Lots of ppl are really caught up in head circumference. And I am not going to say that it's NOTHING... but remember, many times they are just totally smaller in structure than us. T's head is not large. In fact, I look at her compared to my cousin's daughter and I think (about her child) "man, what a huge melon that kid has!!" The better question is how do you feel she's doing milestone wise?
Tati's head is NOT big... and she wasn't really talking much in the baby home. But I can tell you that I knew she was smart. She could figure things out easily (good problem solving) and knew everything they were saying. They just aren't exposed to the things their American counterparts were as infants.
Now you can't shut her up! Yes, I am biased, but she's whip smart. So - small head doesn't ALWAYS mean that she'll struggle later. She just may need some help to catch up :)
Jack liked a regular cup and it took awhile for him too. He was soooo dehydrated his urine was gel. Give her some time, and she will be drinking and eating like a champ. Ease into it slowly...LOTS of change for her :)
It sounds like she is doing great. When we first tried sippy cups, we had to take the stopper out of them (yes, not leakproof then) but Colby was having trouble sucking on it at first. He had trouble with eating too. He loved fruits and soft vegetables, bread, pasta, all soft food. Meats took a while. It will come. They change everyday and eaiting is just part of it. I think Colby's baby home used regular cups and just poured the juice in. We never used a bottle. As for her head size, it seems ok compared to her little body. She looks smaller in size for her age. Just keept track of all her growth. You'll be amazed just how quickly she'll start to grow. Colby grew an inch each month for the first two months he was home.
She's adorable and congrats on the bath success.

I am not sure if someone has mentioned this already, but if you are really concerned about liquids, try to spoon feed her some juice after her meal. That may help to get something down her. I agree to keep trying the bottle or sippy cup...don't give up. This is all new territory for her and she is probably very nervous still. She will be a different child when you get her home, just try to get through the next few days in Russia and survive. It gets better.
Alex couldn't figure out the sippy cup thing so we just used a regular cup. And he LOVED to run, too! I just figured at the orphanage they were never really able to run, so once he was able to do it, he just went nuts! At home he would run in the house or in the yard yelling "I running! I running!"
So glad the bath went well! I love following your blog!
Yay for a good bath! As for the cut situation it is normal. She probably was drinking out of a cup but it is important to teach her to drink from the bottle or sippy. She needs to develope a good sucking reflex which will also help later with eating. Possibly take the guard out of the sippy so she does not have to work as hard the put it back on in a month or so. for the bottle you can make a larger slit in the nipple so she will suck and get some fluids with out working so hard. Be careful that she does not choke at first so possibly sit her up in your lap. Just keep trying she WILL get it.
