Gotcha Day.......Finally!!!

She is with us forever and we bid farewell to the baby home, with minimum fanfare. She screamed for just a few minutes when we got into the car, but settled down quickly and
we had a good ride back to the hotel. We've tried to feed her several things, but so far the only things shes eaten well was yogurt and apple juice. She refused a bottle. We'll need to keep trying at that one. The graduate baby formula I got with some texture to it she put in her mouth but wouldn't swallow it. Same thing at dinner in the restaurant....she snatched up some bits of bread but put it in her mouth and wouldn't swallow. I'm thinking we're going to be on infant baby food for awhile. Hope I have better luck with formula tomorrow.

The bath was fun.....NOT!!! She screamed like I was torturing her, would not sit down and never stopped screaming until she was out. She could have cared less about any bath toys. We'll see how long it takes her to get used to bathes. I'll try again tomorrow as I just don't feel like I got all the baby home smell off her.

Tonight I could tell she was tired and started sucking her thumb. She didn't want to lay and cuddle with me so I put her in her crib and I haven't heard much of a peep out of her since. I'm sure it feels safe in there to her, and its definitely what shes used to. I just feels so weird to me to put a child down in her crib and not have her fuss and cry about bedtime. That wasn't Dylan for sure. We'll see how well she sleeps thru the night.

Congratualtions! She is beautiful! I have been reading your blog forever and am so happy to see she is finally yours! In the pictures she looks fantastic. I think her eyes look much happier in these current pictures than in the older pictures. She is just gorgeous!

She is so cute!!!! Congratulations! I love the pigtails!!!!

Try a snug tub for bathing if you still have problem when you get home. It is less scary and that is what helped Grace relax about bathtime. You could let her play in it dry first and then try the water. We saw where they bathe the babies and it doesn't look fun at all....kinda like a dog bathtub.

Shelly, she is sooo adorable. When we picked Ava up, we had the same situation with the food and also with the baths. I fed Ava baby food for 2 months. I think she didn't like the texture of the food, or it was a sensory issue. It was no problem feeding her baby food and she ate anything, fruits, veggies, meats as long as it was baby food. She did however love Gerber Puffs and still does. I also put Ava on Pedia Sure. It comes in flavors and Ava loved it. She wouldn't even drink milk at all. Congratulations on a successful trip and that God has blessed you with a beautiful Angel.

Oh also about the bath, Ava screamed also. When we got home, we bathed her in the kitchen sink, and she LOVED it. It felt more secure and she could play with the running water and realize it wasn't FREEZING cold like they give in the orphanage. Hope that helps.

Congratulations! She's beautiful! I've just recently found your blog and started reading through your journey! I adopted my son from Ussuriysk in 2007. He also hated the bath. I went in the tub with him when there was no water in it just so he could get used to it and let him feel drops of water from the faucet. It took him few days and a lot of water on the floor, but he was loving the bath when we were in Moscow! He also ate baby food and yogurt for about a month after coming home. For him it was a texture thing. Also, he wasn't used to really using his teeth since everything he ate was pretty much mush. The only real food he would eat (and was constantly in his hand) was string cheese. Congratulations again - you have a beautiful family.

Those blue eyes are just beautiful....she looks so happy!!! Matt was the same with the bath and still to this day will not sit down....loves the water and plays in it in the bath tub but will not sit down!! Crazy!! Matt also loved yogurt and we had him on the jar baby food for a while after we got him and he loved everything also he loved the Russian Gerber cereal in a box!! He probably would still love baby food but we have tried to get away from it and now he is pretty picky about his eating....Can't wait to hear how your 1st night was and that you are headed to Moscow and then next stop....Home sweet Home!!!!

Congratulations!!!! She is just precious! I just gave our daughter a "bath" with warm, soapy wash cloths on the bed and then rinsed with a wash cloth too. She would cry if I even took her into the bathroom, so there was no way I was going to put her down into the tub. By the time I got her home, she trusted me enough, and loved the tub in just a few days. I can't wait to hear all about her - Shelly - your wait was unbelievable. I wish you nothing but the best!

Oh what a doll! She is so adorable. Congrats to you all. What a beautiful family. One note, I didn't notice it in the newer photos but the older oness look very similar to those we have of Colby. Just keep a look out with her eyes, he developed a lazy eye (crossed eyes), which I have heard occur with many adoptive families. Just something to keep an eye on.

Shelly,
She is a beauty. Love the pigtails. No more waiting...no more wondering...now it's time to get home and I believe she will adjust very well soon. Aub had a difficult first bath, but was OK after that. The only thing she would eat was that yucky baby cereal EvErY meal. We fed her baby food for awhile because she hadn't had to do much chewing at the baby home. We eased in to that.
I see it in her eyes...she's yours...she's safe...she's home.
Love you, friend. Keep in touch.
